I always wonder how the cardboard world would’ve changed if Alex Rodriguez had signed a contract with Topps in ’92 instead of ’98. He would’ve played with team USA, probably appearing in the 1993 Topps Traded set, would’ve had a 1994 Topps Draft Pick card, and could’ve appeared in the 1994 Bowman’s Best set. Any one of those cards would have a chance to be Alex’s #1 rookie card instead of his 1994 SP rookie card. But we’ll never know, since Alex didn’t sign with Topps until 1998. Here’s what A-Rod’s 1993 Topps Traded card may have looked like.
